Happy New Year Cake

That’s a special cake for Greeks, it’s a tradition to hide a coin inside and bottom of the cake, so who’s the guy win the lucky slice. Happy New Year Cake

Ingredients

For the happy new year cake, you need the ingredients below,

650 gr. flour for cakes
160 gr. sugar
70 gr. butter
100 gr. milk
100 gr. water
40 gr. fresh yeast
1 teaspoon mahlab
1 teaspoon kakoule
Zest of an orange
3 eggs
White and dark chocolate

Execution

Melt the butter with the sugar and the milk in a saucepan on low heat. Melt also the yeast in lukewarm water. Put the flour in the mixer with the eggs, the spices, the aromatics and the orange zest. Next add the yeast mixture into the flour and slowly pour the butter, knead around 15 minutes. Let the dough rise about an hour.

When it’s ready try to shape the dough in a ball. Use some silver foil in order to wrap a coin and put it inside bottom of the dough. Then put the dough aside to get rest and rise. Beat some eggs smearing on the top of the cake. Bake the cake in the oven at 180 degrees about 45 mins. Melt the chocolates and decorate. That’s it the happy new year cake it’s ready for your New Year’s Eve party.
